Salwar Kameez in B'wood!

Perhaps it is an indication that fashion in India is yet to break boundaries. As the honourable High Court declares the salwar kameez to be a ‘decent’ outfit for college students, we explore the all-pervading manual of fashion for the average Indian – Bollywood! Of course, costumes are indeed genre-centric, but these glamazons show us how this very Indian attire can be worn in style. Starting off with southie siren Shriya Saran.

Isha Koppikar made good use of the salwar to pull off the modest housewife act in ‘Ek vivaah aisa bhi’.

Preity Zinta showed off her talent and more with her Punjabi kudi act in ‘Heroes’. The Punjabi version is generally accompanied by an array of bangles and very prominent drops or hoop earrings

And who could forget the transformation the simple salwar brought to the city girl Kareena in ‘Jab we met’. Notice the elaborate embroidery.

Tabu displays how the salwar-kameez can also spell sophistication for the modern woman. ‘Cheeni Kum’, but attitude zyaada!

Anushka certainly looks cute in the crepe fabric salwar-kameez, on ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. One of the desi definitions for casual wear

As for the upright corporate lady, the salwar kameez stands out as a convenient first choice…atleast on desi shores. Amrita Arora’s call centre employee avatar in ‘Hello’.

The village belles too swear by this very same attire, as Rani and Konkana did in ‘Laga chunari mein daag’

Rani Mukherjee again, in ‘Bunty aur Babli’ showcased this very colourful look during her initial escapades.
